What counts as a prompt

One prompt is one question asked of one engine. It's all a run spends:

Formula
prompts per run = questions × engines
prompts per month = prompts per run × runs that month

These cost nothing: adding a brand, reading your site, refreshing the profile, drafting questions, reading reports and API or MCP requests. A run started through the API or MCP spends prompts like any other.

Worked examples

Free One full report a month 10 questions × 2 engines = 20 prompts

The whole allowance, so an extra on-demand run that month won't start.

Growth A 20-question report on four engines 20 questions × 4 engines = 80 prompts

2,000 ÷ 80 = 25 runs a month, shared across the workspace. At the full 100 questions a run uses 400 prompts, so 5.

Growth Five brands, one weekly monitor each 5 monitors × 80 × 4 weeks = 1,600 prompts

400 left for re-runs. A month with five weekly runs uses all 2,000.

Growth One monitor, every day 80 × 31 days = 2,480 prompts

480 over: two prompt packs (2 × $119), or trim to 15 questions (60 × 31 = 1,860).

Estimate your month

It assumes the longest month: five weekly or 31 daily runs.

Re-runs after you ship a fix

1,360of 2,000 prompts a month

80 prompts a run × 17 runs

Fits, with 640 prompts to spare: room for 8 more full runs.

What happens at your limit

A run's cost is set aside before it starts, so no run stops halfway.

  • A run that would go over won't start. Remove questions, wait for the reset or add prompts.
  • Scheduled monitors pause, then resume when you add prompts or the cycle resets.
  • Members can ask for more with Request credits, which notifies the owner. Only the owner buys prompts.
  • A run that fails outright doesn't use prompts. A run where only some engines fail is still charged.
  • Allowances reset monthly, on the date on your Usage page.

Tip: near the limit? Cut questions before cadence. A weekly 15-question monitor keeps the weekly trend for 25% less than 20.

Check your usage

In the workspace menu, open Settings, then Usage: prompts used this cycle, the reset date and what used them. On Growth it also shows API and MCP requests.

Growth add-ons

One-time purchases, bought in the app by the workspace owner.

Purchased prompts are used after your monthly allowance runs out, roll over and expire 12 months after purchase. They freeze if you move back to Free. More than four packs? Contact us about Enterprise.

Billing

Growth is paid by card, no sales call: $279 a month, or $2,790 a year (about $233 a month) with 2,000 prompts refilled monthly. These are limited-time launch prices and may change after the offer ends. Sign up, then upgrade or switch plans from Plans in workspace settings; invoices are under Billing. To leave an annual plan, contact us.

API and MCP limits

Growth includes 10,000 API and MCP requests a month. Neither is on Free.

Create keys under Settings, then API keys: one workspace per key, up to 3 active per person. Read only keys read data and reports. Read & write keys also create, update, delete and trigger runs, and MCP needs one.

Enterprise

Coming soon Planned for early 2027 and open to every team, Contentstack customer or not. It adds unlimited brandsFair use policy applies, custom prompt and API limits, premium models on all four engines, access to 200+ AI models across regions, SSO and SCIM, an SLA, data residency and a named customer success manager. Pay by invoice, or add it to your Contentstack contract. Contact us, or talk to us for a walkthrough.

A fair use policy applies.

Common questions

Do unused prompts roll over?

Your monthly allowance resets each month. Prompts from a prompt pack roll over and expire 12 months after purchase.

Does a failed run use prompts?

Not if it fails outright. Prompts are set aside when a run starts, and a run that fails outright doesn't use them. A run where only some engines fail is still charged.

Do API and MCP requests use prompts?

No. Reading reports counts toward your 10,000 requests a month on Growth. Starting a run through the API or MCP spends prompts like any other run.

Is the Free plan a trial?

No. Free costs nothing, needs no card and doesn't expire.
